Once again, overnight rain madethe conditions unfit for play at the scheduled start. The start ofplay was delayed by 40 minutes and as a result the match was reducedto a 45 overs a side affair.Kerala captain and veteran Ranji cricketer KN Ananthapdmanabhan wonthe toss and chose to field. With just 21 runs on the board, Manojdrew first blood, when he sent stumper C Raghu back to the pavilion.Railways cricketer Sanjay Bangar managed just 9 before he toodeparted. Skipper Yere Goud played a captain’s knock, contributing 54to a total of 166.The rest of the BPL batsmen failed to muster theruns. Manoj with 3/29 returned the best figures.Although 166 is hardly the kind of score that would put fear in theminds of a chasing team, it proved to be sufficient against Kerala.Apart from V Girilal at the top of the innings, no one elsecontributed. Even Girilal managed just 36. Wicketkeeper VG Nairmanaged 39 in the middle order before he was caught and bowled byOrissa off spinner Kulamani Parida.From a dangerous but reasonable position of 92/4 Kerala slumped to 127all out. Skipper KN Anathapadmanabhan disappointed, making just 1 run.Shreyas Kanolkar with 3/14 was adjudged the player of the day.
