Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to shower praise on Cheikhou Kouyate for his display in the 1-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday.
The 57-cap Senegal international was making his 21st Premier League start of the campaign, and went on to deliver a key performance as Roy Hodgson’s side made their way onto 33 points for the season.
Kouyate put in a great shift defensively, winning three aerial duels and two tackles, while also making an interception and a block.
The former West Ham man’s energy in the middle of the park was a huge bonus to the Eagles, with one second-half moment in which he surged up the pitch and cut though the entire Newcastle team a reminder of just how effective he can be.
Unfortunately, he was forced to leave the field with an injury in the 90th minute, although his work prior to that moment was enough to help the south Londoners pick up all three points.
Let’s see what the Crystal Palace fans on Twitter have been saying about his display…
To kick off the reaction, GazBod said they love the geezer when praising Kouyate’s display, also calling him a devastatingly effective player.
Luke Tyrrell then added that the former Anderlecht man’s ability to carry the ball forward is something that he doesn’t get enough credit for, while also branding him as an absolute powerhouse.
Elsewhere, Pin said that Kouyate is approaching first name on the team sheet territory, such is his importance to the side.
Wilson then said that he offered so much more than Luka Milivojevic. This fan also mentioned that the Senegalese man’s technique is slightly unconventional, although his athleticism is incredible – a good point well made.
Lastly, Graham said that Kouyate doesn’t get enough credit for how hard he works.
